Laurence CHAPMAN

Laurence is a lifelong resident of South Benfleet and lived in Appleton Road in his childhood. He divides his time between working as a Higher Level Teaching Assistant at a primary school and pursuing a degree in Horticulture at Writtle University.

For the past 10 years, Laurence has volunteered at Benfleet Horticultural Society and sits on the committee as Membership Secretary. He has a passion for horticulture and enjoys exhibiting his flowers, fruits, and vegetables at horticultural shows in the area, including at Hyde Hall. He is also, unsurprisingly, extremely interested in Green issues and is strongly opposed to building on Green Belt.

For many years, he has been an active member of the Labour Party and is the Castle Point Labour Party’s Vice Chair, Campaign Coordinator & Social Media Officer. In addition, he holds positions in the Co-operative Party, Labour’s sister party, where he was elected Secretary of the South Essex Branch and Western East Anglia Party Council. If elected as a councillor, Laurence pledges to work tirelessly to serve our community, safeguard the Green Belt, and make the borough more eco-friendly.

He was Chair of Health & Environment for 7 years, introducing curb-side recyclables and green waste collections. He moved to Benfleet in 1970 with his wife, Joan and his children and grandchildren grew up and live here. He retired as a Ford Snr. Systems Analyst after a career at Ford Dunton and Warley Head Office that included long experience as a Staff Union Representative and National Negotiating Committee member.

He is a carer for his wife and a carer member of the Healthwatch Essex Disability and Carers Forum. He has served two terms as a Castle Point Governor of Southend Hospital and is Chair of his GP Surgery “Patients Participation Group”, which he represents at the Benfleet PCN (Primary Care Network) group of all Benfleet GP Practices. He stands as “Labour & Co-operative” – a keen supporter of the Co-operative movement. Joe’s long service as a Citizen’s Advice trustee helped him to assist residents and he feels he can do much more for individuals and the Community if entrusted with your vote to represent you on our Local Council.

Georgina MORGAN-BATES

Georgina grew up on Canvey Island and went to sixth form in Thundersley and now lives in Benfleet. She works in education and has run her own business as a childminder and now works in the public sector. Both her children attend schools locally and she has family living in the community too. Georgina has enjoyed rediscovering all that Castle Point has to offer and is a frequent visitor to Hadleigh Country Park and enjoys mountain biking.

Georgina is a member of the Castle Point Leisure Centre and knows how incredibly lucky we are to benefit from two great leisure centres and many libraries. We are extremely lucky to boast such fabulous green spaces and beaches and Georgina is passionate about keeping our waterways and environment free from pollution. She is committed to keeping our green spaces and trees free from inappropriate development and destruction. She commutes to and from work along the A13 and she is a strong believer in planning to avoid disruption for maintenance and keeping our roads safe for all road users.
