St Mary's Ward

Christine has lived in Benfleet for over 21 years. She is a semi-retired teacher of Economics and Business, however, for many years she was the NEU representative fighting for better educational standards for all in the local area. As Head of a large department, she gained extensive experience in leading teams and she has helped hundreds of young people to achieve their educational goals. In order to protect local services, Christine has been engaged in saving the Rapid Response Vehicle, Save Our Libraries Essex and Save our Hospitals campaigns. She also participated in the local Labour party leafleting campaign and protested against the proposals to build on greenbelt land.

Dear Elector,

I am writing to you as the Labour Party candidate for St. Mary’s ward. Benfleet has for years been a decent, safe and family friendly area. Regrettably, our local schools are now under funded and are facing ever increasing cuts, which are having a negative impact upon our children’s and grandchildren’s education.

For too long, there has been a lack of affordable housing and the current Conservative led council has failed to produce any credible local plan for future development and house building. Local facilities and much needed services are being slashed, including children’s centres and libraries. Our roads are crumbling and the lack of police has been linked to increasing levels of traffic accidents. Additionally, the rising level of violent crime has left local residents feeling less secure within their own community. Having dedicated my working life to enabling young people to achieve their aspirations and improve their life chances, I vow to fight with the same level of integrity and dedication for the protection of our local services and I will offer a strong voice for all local residents living in St Mary’s ward.
