Canvey Island East Ward
Jackie Reilly: Candidate for Canvey Island East Ward
Jackie has lived on Canvey Island for over 30 years and has always loved its warm and friendly community spirit.
All three of her children attended St Katherine’s and Castle View Schools and then SEEVIC.
She is a qualified public sector accountant and worked for a large London Borough for several years. She then taught accountancy at a number of colleges and finally taught Mathematics at SEEVIC (USP) College.
She has been active in the local community serving as a governor in three Canvey schools and also as the councillor for Canvey East during the last Labour administration. During her time as East Ward councillor she, amongst other things, led a successful campaign to prevent houses being built on Park Lane; dealt with a serious parking problem in Crescent Road and lobbied for improvements to the area outside of Leigh Beck School. She was also Chair of Finance and Labour Chief Whip on Castle Point Council.
Jackie feels very strongly that there should be no more building on Canvey Island and that the Greenbelt should be preserved throughout the whole of Castle Point.
Her main concerns, apart from protecting the Greenbelt, are the critical state of GP services on the island; the creeping privatisation of the NHS accompanied by longer waiting list and the threat of closure to our local libraries
She also wants to see more money put into schools and colleges and better social housing provision, especially for our children.
Finally, she firmly believes that the streetlights should be on all night to make residents feel safer.
